Some things are better to be gotten over than to harbour it for a long time.
Yes. Truth to be. Towards things that are just not happening and not possible, it is really better to be gotten over and done with, Get on with life than to harp and harbour over it for a long time. Honestly the latter is probably the more lethal silent killer towards one's spiritual mind and health. Therefore by experience, i say the former is the less suicidal and perhaps the healthier choice towards many strifes we face in life.
To get over something means to accept the outcome, to learn from the mistakes done and more so to get on with life and embrace the future with open arms. Of course, to preach is easier than to execute the course of action, unless the subject to get over is of trivial significance. Sadly, in real life it is truly ourselves to blame for our own judgements. Whether or not the subject is categorised to be of any significance at all, is relative to each individual.
"My cup of tea may not be your cup of tea". In layman's terms, what is important to me may not necessarily be important to you.
Hence the level of significance will determine the level of difficulty and effort to get over it. The higher the significance, the harder it is to let go. This is the sad truth, despite many good fella's advice to get over and move on. It is but no one but yourself who can truly overcome it. Painful and difficult as it can be; life still goes on; time still ticks past. It is only how we salvage the perception and situation that we can move on with the lost moments in life. Remember, 'Time waits for no one'.
On the other hand, to harbour the thought for a long period may serve as a form of respect or due to the inability to accept the consequence. In fact, it takes a lot of courage to accept any form of consequence itself. Thus, it is an inevitable innate action that should be pardoned. (Most would want time to stop at that moment or rewind back to the lost moments itself, never to reach the outcome.) Of course, if harbouring it exceeds the grace period (meaning too long), something should be done to it or one will forever be stuck and trapped in time.
To add on, harbouring such issues bring about more stress and health hazards. Most of the time insomnia is one favourite symptom, along with loss of appetite and sometimes the intensity in getting busy with other work or exercise. Therefore, the point is not to encourage apathy from the strife in life we face daily but to get over it once grace period is over. What is unhealthy is the detrimental effects from harping too long over such issues in the long run that finally kills us. *(instead of some RTAs, pun and cynicism intended) In truth, when we are really barely alive, would anything change; would the situation be solved or would anyone care? Perhaps not for the former two. Why suffer needlessly over them?
To crown it all, like any other lazy fella who wants to get the hell out of the dilemma and solve the problem the quickly and it is just simpler to get over it, step over it and move on with life. Then again it is definitely easier said than done but since nothing progresses without effort, to get over will require some discipline and attempt.
Ultimately, Time will heal the wounds and everything else.
