N found a guy lying on a rock while trying to gather some bamboo shoots, the legendary shoots that enhances the taste of his favourite ramen. Being kind and friendly at heart, he decides to bring this unconscious stranger to his village hospital, though he wasn't supposed to. The guy suffered from amnesia and couldn't remember his past, but he carried along a unique blowpipe where he was found. While he was recovering at the hospital, a stranger visited village K. He was chased by the shinobies but still got away. Coincidental or not, a fire broke out at the hospital, a baby was trapped in the fire. The guy was forgotten and was also trapped in. HE heard the cries of a baby. Curious to find out where the cries lead to, he carried his unique blowpipe and found the trapped baby. He used his blowpipe to play a tune which calmed the baby down and he saved both himself and the baby by jumping out of a window. His blowpipe broke into 2 upon the impact. N fixed it for him nonetheless and made friends with him. Meanwhile, N gives the guy a name sicne he claims to have forgotten everything of his past. Menma, as he will be called was named after the legendary bamboo shoots, since N found him while gathering that. A friendship was forged. The village head summons N and Menma to her office and let them visit the place where N found Menma, in the hope of him regaining his memory.
In the absence of Menma, the village head warns N that Menma may be in cahoots with the stranger who sneaked into the village and wants him to be on guard. She placed 2 more shinobi friends of N, NJ and TT to accompany their trip to the Rice country. NJ was observant. He observed that Menma had special capabbilities and may well pass off as another shinobi. Menma's reflexes were superb, his speed was incredible too. At a burnt down village near the Rice village which they came across, hostile villagers greeted them for fear they were bandits.
Eventually they stayed to help. Menma and N helped build a high wall and a bridge to ward off the bandits from entering. Initially they really bonded well with the villagers in their common goal in wall building. Then one night the chief of the bandits, Shin attacked. Though alone, he was chased by N and his friends. With the help of Menma's blowpipe technique that increases chakra, they were on the verge of capturing that Shin. But the village chief of the burnt down village came and tried to help with his crossbows. Shin aimed a dagger at him, Menma saw it coming and shielded him with his back. He was injured as a result, Shin got away. By a special tattoo that surfaced while he was attended by the village chief, he was recognised as one of the members of the bandit group. Before they could deal with Menma, Shin and his bandit gang arrived at the newly resurrected gate. The gate proved to be useful in delaying the attacking gang to buy time for the villagers to hide. N and his friends tried to deal with the gang but were rooted to the ground due to Shin blowing into a flute which roots their movements while his comrades attacked with the shurikens. Luckily Menma used a counterattack technique on his unique blowpipe that released N and his friends from paralysis to defend themselves in time.
A little girl by the name of Fuki tried to find her lost necklace which was the last possession of her father who perished in the previous attack. She was nearly attacked by a bandit but Menma rescued her. She suddenly remembers Menma as the guy who saved her from another bandit and fell down the ravine in her place. She couldn't speak after the previous bandit attack but suddenly recovered and eventually saves Menma from a rear-attack by another bandit. N catches up with Menma while Menma tells him of Shin's plan to flood the village., and requests N to bring him to the mine. Shin's last resort to take over the village was to flood the village by blowing the dam that held the water from the oceans. Menma was going to stop him by blowing the mine so that the rocks will break the flood. Menma confessed to N on their way to the mine that he had actually regained his memory not long after he was found, but just pretended he couldn't remmeber. He knew his bandit clan had done many henious crimes and was utterly ashamed of their actions. Hence he wanted to repent and relive by using a technique to lose his memory, but it didn't go well. Therefore, he decides his duty was to stop Shin from more harm to the village, even at the cost of his own life. He, succeeded in stoppping the flood with his life as he set the explosive tags in the mine on fire. N captured Shin and the rest of the bandits but was very upset over the death of Menma.
>>Menma eventually repented and die for a worthy cause that was not evil..But it wasn't easy to deal with a friend's demise..It never was easy, was it?I know how it felt..
