The Pinky Story

The Pinky Story
.how hooking of the pinky fingers came about.*i love it*
Once, there was a very beautiful Princess living in a kingdom far far away. She was so beautiful that many princes from around the world came asking for her hand in marriage. But she had always rejected them. Till the time she felt that she could not reject anymore princes, she held a contest to her suitors. At the very last round where she was left with 5 princes, she gave avery simple yet interesting test. The one who fulfilled it passes and wins her heart. The test was: She lifted a pinky finger behind her back; the prince who lifts the right finger (the same pinky finger) wins the contest.

The 1st princes-the Prince of Persia, lifted his thumb. The Princess was disappointed but moved on to the 2nd prince. The 2nd prince-the Prince of Alaska, lifted his index finger. The Princess turn away once again to the 3rd prince. The 3rd prince was the Prince of China, and he lifted his middle finger. On seeing that, the Princess punched and kicked him. *lol* , And she moved on to the 4th prince. The 4th prince was tall and handsome- he was the Prince of Denmark, but he lifted his ring finger. Much to her highness's disappointment, she moved on to the last prince-the Prince of Rome. He, lifted his pinky finger. Much to the Princess's delight, she revealed her own pinky finger and the prince hooked his pinky finger with that of the Princess. The sign when both pinkies were hooked represented a promise, the promise of love, responsibility and trust.

Some years later, after the Princess was hapily married to the Prince of Rome, a great war started and the Prince was called to fight in a battle against the enemy. Before the Prince left for war, he hooked pinkies with the Princess with the promise of returning to her side after the war. That was the promise he held and brought to war. 5 years passed and they won the war eventually, bringing about peace, yet there was no news of her beloved Prince. Many folks said that he's died and the Princess should consider remarrying. The Princess remained faithful and steadfast to the marriage with her Prince. But after years of waiting in vail, she decided to accept the idea of remarying. But she did not give up hope of seeing her prince again. She trusted him in keeping his promise to return.

Again, suitors were let in for the Princess to pick. She chose to lift her pinky finger to see what the many princes would do to it. She did that to all the princes and none did what she wanted. Some even put rings into the pinky finger instead, thinking the Princess wanted the rings on her pinky finger. Then after many failed attempts by many princes, came a beggar dressed under a dark cloak. The castle guards refused to allow him access to see the Princess. But the benovolent Princess let him in, nonetheless. The cloaked beggar stood before the Princess, while she lifted her pinky finger once again. This time, the beggar lifted his pinky finger and hooked the Princess's tightly. The Princess was both astonished and surprised. The beggar lifted his cloakhood and revealed his face. It turned out that the beggar was the Prince, her highness's long awaited beloved Prince!

Then one night, the winds blew strongly outside, the curtains in the royal highnesses' chamber danced in the winds. The Prince gave one last look at the sleeping Princess and touched the her cheeks before leaving. The Princess suddenly jolted awake and made her way to the window. She didn't know what made her do so, but she found her beloved Prince in the middle of a crossroad below her window, waving to her. She just broke down and cried.

The ultimate truth, was that her beloved Prince was killed on his way back from the victorious war. But he returned to the Princess's side for he wanted to fulfil his promise to his loving wife, even after death. It was said that the soul of a person lingers on Earth with humans for 49days after their deaths, before their souls vaporise into thin air. He returned as a ghost in the form of a beggar for his beautiful wife with that promise, and that day when he disappeared and left was his 49th day. ..

A few days later, the Princes's men found his body. The Princess dressed her beloved dead Prince in his best, dressed herself in her best as well, lay beside him...with hooked pinkies and took poison...
She died, with tightly hooked pinkies, beside the man she loved...
